Dr. Gholdy Muhammad’s Five Pursuits Framework (Identity, Skills, Intellect, Criticality, and Joy) is a research-based approach that enhances student engagement and intellectual growth. This academically rigorous Genius and Joy curriculum uses standards-aligned content to focus on universal values, creativity and critical thinking, and interaction with families and communities. Through connecting authentic texts to the real world, all students are able to see their learning as meaningful and relevant. This curriculum was designed, written, and consulted by a collective garden of brilliant scholars and educators who have rich experiences as parents, teachers, school and district leaders, curriculum leaders, and community advocates.
Gholdy Muhammad is the John Corbally Endowed Professor and professor of curriculum and instruction at the University of Illinois Chicago. She has served as a classroom teacher, literacy specialist, school district administrator, curriculum director, and school board president.
